Business Partners - Providing job opportunities to individuals with disabilities

Cardboard Recycling

Kreider Services works directly with local businesses in recycling cardboard. The project was assisted in its formative years with a recycling grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

Kreider Services currently collects cardboard from Borg Warner, Plews Edelman, Donaldson's, Anchor Coupling, Allied Locke, Dixon Correctional Center, LRB Distributors, UPM Raflatac, HWI, Warp and several other companies in Dixon. Kreider also works directly with the Jack Mabley Developmental Center in recycling cardboard and other recyclable materials collected by Mabley.

If a business and/or organization is interested in working directly with Kreider in recycling cardboard items, contact Lisa Oelke, Production Facilitator, at (815) 288-6691. Cardboard that is accepted through this recycling project of Kreider Services should meet the following:

  • The cardboard should be clean; free of food, oil and grease, and not be wet.
  • The cardboard should be flattened.
  • Kreider Services does not accept chip board – the type of cardboard used in packaging of pop cans and other canned beverages.

The benefits of recycling are obvious for the environment. Not so obvious are the benefits of recycling in our community for people with disabilities. The revenue generated from recycling and warehouse contracts is used to support services for people with disabilities at Kreider Services. The contracts also create work opportunities for a wide range of people with different levels of ability at Kreider Services.
